Star of the east, arise and shine
On this benighted soul of mine;
And lead me from the haunts of men,
To view the child of Bethelehem.
Let me adore the heavenly babe,
Tho' in a manger lowly laid;
And own Him as my Saviour Lord,
The Son of the eternal God.
What grateful off'ring can I bring
To lay before the eternal King?
More sweet than incense can impart
Is an obedient, contrite heart.
Oh! may the day-spring from on high
Dart through my soul his quick'ning ray,
And make my heart a sacrifice,
Accepted in my Saviour's eyes.
