Look Ahead

by E. F. Hayward

Have no fear of what's behind you,
Give no thought to yesterdays;
Only that they may remind you
Of the error of your ways.

Look ahead for every blessing,
Greet them when they come along;
Lookin' backward, is depressing,
And will seldom right a wrong.

Each new day is full of treasures,
You can find them if you try;
Never pass up present pleasures—
Grieving o'er the days gone by.

Get some good from each new minute,
Sort the best from every hour;
Sip the sweetness there is in it,
As the bee does, from the flower.

Live today, hope for tomorrow,
Better days are just ahead;
Don't awaken grief and sorrow,
By recalling time that's dead.
